Police have thanked the public for their assistance after an attempted robbery in Congleton on Friday.

Four men were arrested following the incident at Brown’s Jewellers in the town.

The Christmas Lights Switch on was thrown into question after roads were closed for police to gather forensic evidence.

However, it did go ahead as planned.

Strikes Set to Affect East Cheshire

Key services are set to grind to a halt next week, as unions insist strikes will go ahead.

The walkouts on Wednesday will see the closure of most schools in Macclesfield and east Cheshire, while some NHS operations are having to be rescheduled, and appointments and tests postponed.

The government is warning unions they risk losing the improved offer on pensions, if they walk out.

Cyber Bullying Survey Launched in East Cheshire

Twelve to 16 year olds in East Cheshire are being targeted by council bosses as they look at ways to tackle cyber bullying.

An online survey has been launched to find out how much of a problem it is.

Nationally, there’s been an increase in children being bullied via their mobiles, emails or on social networking sites like Facebook.

The results of the survey will be used to decide how best to stop the problem and  help those who are victims of it.

We are being asked to ring a new non-emergency number to report incidents  instead of 999.

Cheshire Police, together with Merseyside Police and Greater Manchester Police, are among the first to switch over to the telephone number ‘101′.

It’s to make it easier for members of the public to contact police in a non-emergency.

MISSING PREGNANT WOMAN STILL NOT FOUND
There’s growing concern for a pregnant woman from Crewe, who has not been seen for six days.

31-year-old Katherine Dillon is believed to be almost eight months pregnant and was last seen on 10th November.

She’s described as white, 5ft 5in tall of slim build, and has dark brown curly hair.

Katherine was last seen wearing a grey smock with black leggings, a white jacket and trainers.

As the weather turns colder, the Highways Agency in Cheshire’s preparing for wintry conditions.

Last year, heavy snow fall led to problems for drivers across the county’s roads.

Gritters worked round the clock to keep the main routes open.

Manager Andrew Olive says they’re on stand-by.

A callous thief in Cheshire has stolen nine poppy tins in the last week.

One was even stolen from a bakery while a service was taking place on Armistice day.

It’s been happening across the Cheshire area, including Chester and Frodsham.

He’s described as white, in his early to mid thirties, of average build and around 6′ tall.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Cases of the infection are increasing in Cheshire, and the Health Protection Agency says those who haven’t had the jab are most at risk.

RUBBISH SENT TO LANDFILL REDUCED IN CHESHIRE

Cheshire residents have managed to dramatically reduce the amount of rubbish being sent to landfill sites.

In just 12 months, Cheshire East Council cut garbage sent to tips by one thousand tonnes – saving £100,000.

Residents can now use one bin to recycle rather than having to sort it out at the kerb.

The local authority believes the move has contributed to the waste reduction.

Warnings are being renewed about keeping a closer eye on your car.

We’re being ripped off in Cheshire by scams and frauds to the tune of almost 7 billion pounds a year nationally.

A report from the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee also says the system for protecting consumers is not good enough.

The study highlights the failure to keep up with online or credit card fraud.
